As you probably already know the Pax is easily one of the most popular and widely recommended portable vaporizers that’s on the market at the moment.
So naturally I decided to get my hands on one so that I could see what all the fuss and hype is about.
So today I present to you my full and honest video AND written Ploom Pax Vaporizer review.
It’s been said a lot online in forums and other Ploom Pax reviews that these Pax vapes look and feel a hell of a lot like an ‘Apple’ product would if they were ever to get into the vaporizer game and upon first impressions I found this really to be true.
The packaging is super glossy and feels high quality, the instruction booklet is well presented, simple and full of diagrams and the device itself look sleek, modern and very much like an MP3 player or something along those lines.
It’s simple… but effective.
The Pax isn’t exactly ‘packed’ with features but it does come with a couple of decent ones including things like:
- Good battery life. The pax when fully charged will give you around one hour of consecutive vaping time which is pretty impressive considering how small the device is.
- Three different heat settings. Although you can’t set the Pax to the exact degree that you want to vape at you do still have the choice between three different heat settings – low, medium and high.
However although the the Pax doesn’t come with a tonne of ‘bells and whistles’ or an array of customization options… I really don’t think that this is what they are trying to do with the Pax anyway.
I think a big reason behind the Pax’s success is it’s sheer simplicity and easy of use.
Sometimes I don’t want to use a vaporizer (or any type of technology for that matter) that has a tonne of buttons and features that I have to set and I’ve always really appreciated devices that are just simple, easy to use and that work each and every time without hassle… and in my opinion this is exactly what the Pax is all about.
Sure it wont allow you to set it to the exact temperature that you want. If this is something that you’re looking for then you are better off going with something like a Davinci Ascent. However it’s hard not to appreciate how truly ‘plug and play’ this device is.
It just could not be easier to use and operate.
Stealth, portability and all that jazz mean nothing if the vape quality isn’t there.
However I was pleased to find that this device really does produce a nice tasting vape and it does so consistently too.
I wouldn’t say that the vape quality is ‘mind blowing’ or anything like some of the more premium ‘at home’ vaporizers that I’ve tried and used but that is probably to be expected of such a small device.
But that being said the quality is definitely not bad at all and I never get hits that are too rough or burnt or anything like that.
The great thing about the Pax too is that you don’t have to be a veteran vaper or anything like that to get a stellar vape off of this device either – even a total vaping newbie could pick this up and begin to get great, clean, yummy hits right from the get go.
The King Of Stealth…
Although the ease of use, vape quality, battery life and all the rest is nice… I think the absolute best thing about the Pax is just how crazy stealthy and portable it is.
I’d even go as far as to say that this is the stealthiest and most portable vaporizer that I’ve used to date.
It’s a LOT smaller than most of the other portables that I’ve been using and a LOT lighter too.
In fact the ONLY vape that I’ve come across to date that is smaller than the Pax is the Magic Flight Launch Box but even this I feel isn’t as discreet as the Pax since it’s design is much more intriguing looking which leads people to get curious and ask more questions. You can see a comparison image below to see what I mean:
The Pax vape on the other hand is just so damn innocent and ordinary looking that I would bet a lot of money that people would guess that this was an MP3 player or a sunglasses case or something like that LONG before they would ever pick it as being a vape.
The only people I think that would recognize this for what is are other fellow Pax users. In which case – they’re probably cool with it anyway.
As with practically all vapes however the Pax vape does have a couple of downsides that I’ve found after using it for a while.
The two biggest downsides that I found were:
- You’ll need to clean it more often than other vaporizers. Unlike some of the other vaporizers that I’ve tried and reviewed that seem to function fine even if you get lazy and don’t clean them for months at a time with the Pax this isn’t the case. Now it’s not as though cleaning the device is hard or anything. In fact it’s super fast and can easily be cleaned using the included cleaning kit that comes with pipe cleaners and sanitizer. However you will have to do it after every few uses or else the vaporizer will stop to work correctly either giving you an extremely weak vape or worse – none at all!
- It’s not the most herb efficient vaporizer out there. If you’re main priority is herb efficiency and you’re someone that’s really big on squeezing as much use out of your herb as possible than the Pax may not be for you. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not as though you’ll pack it and only get one hit and then be done or anything. However I have found that it does go through your herb noticeably faster than other vaporizers that I’ve tried.
Aside from these two minor gripes though there really isn’t a lot I can fault the Pax on.
If you’re looking for something that’s more of an ‘at home’ vape then there you might be better off going with something like Volcano or a Plenty since their vape quality is a bit higher and they are a bit more herb effecient.
However if you’re looking for something portable and compact and ridiculously stealthy… then the Pax simply cannot be beaten.
It’s the vaporizer that I take with me when I’m out and about and want something that wont weigh me down and it’s also a vape I like to take when I’m planning on sharing with friends or are going to a party simply because it’s so damn easy to use that anybody can pick it up and start vaping right away without a 10 minute tutorial on how to use the damn thing.
And so for all of these reason I’m going to give the Ploom Pax vaporizer a kick ass rating of 8.5/10.
