The PUFFiT vape and it’s successor the PUFFiT X have quickly become two of the most popular vaporizers on the market partly due to it’s ‘stealth’ appeal since this vaporizer disguises itself as an asthma puffer.
And although the idea of a ‘inhaler vaporizer’ is pretty clever I admit the reality is that this vaporizer just didn’t quite do it for me and in today’s PUFFiT review I’ll be reviewing both the original PUFFiT vaporizer as well as the PUFFiT X to let you know why I don’t think I’ll be using these vaporizers a whole lot.
So before I had even tried the PUFFiT I had heard some pretty mixed things about it. I know a guy that uses them regularly and when I asked him how he finds it he said he really dug it because it was simple and stealthy.
But then I had feedback from others who really disliked the device. So I really wanted to try and review these devices to satisfy my curiosity once and for and to of course hopefully satisfy yours.
On first impressions it looks really good. The packaging is colourful and well put together, the instructions are well done, it’s got this included carry case which is a nice addition and the vape itself really does look like an asthma puffer.
I’ve heard that it is a bit bigger than an actual asthma puffer but I really doubt that anyone would notice. I know I sure as hell wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
And to use the Puffit we first unscrew the top here and then fill up the chamber with our herb.
Next we then pull off the bottom cap here which will reveal and temperature gage that you can set between 1-7 with seven being the highest.
Then we press the button in for a couple of seconds and this light will start to flash to signal that it’s heating up.
And then once it’s hit you’re vaping temperature the light will go green and you can then start to inhale.
Now honestly the taste isn’t too bad.
But the thing is – it just tastes so freaking weak.
Even with the thing set to the highest temperature on 7 I can barely get a vape cloud and the throat hit I’m getting is just so minimal and tiny and it really just isn’t satisfying for me.
I did find that if you inhale really hard and fast you can get a bit of a better hit and a decent vape cloud but you really have to put a bit of effort into it and also then it does start to taste a bit gross.
Is The PUFFiT X Any Better?
But hey – there’s always the Puffit X right? Maybe that’s a whole load better?
Like the original device the PUFFiT comes in colorful, awesome looking packaging and it even includes a really cool carry case.
But unfortunately I really didn’t notice a whole lot of improvement with the PUFFiT X.
The main ‘selling point’ of the PUFFiT X over the original vape is that it has a built in ‘forced fan’ mode which is designed to help to push the vape out. And this does sound quite good since the main problem that I had with the first one was not getting enough vapor.
But I’ve come to find the forced fan to be more annoying then useful. It does do a bit of a better job at pushing the vapor out but at the end of the day it’s still way weaker than I would like and definitely not as satisfying as other portable vaporizers that I’ve reviewed.
And on top of that the fan creates a pretty loud and high pitched noise when it’s on which is definitely not pleasant to listen to and kind of defeats the purpose of this being a ‘discreet’ vaporizer as people could definitely hear this buzzing sound from a fair way away.
All in all it’s just still too weak, too light and too much work to get a decent hit.
The Final Verdict…
Now I know I’m being pretty critical with this vape and I really did try to come at this one with an open mind despite hearing some pretty mixed feedback from people.
But ultimately although the inhaler vaporizer idea is kind of clever – it really just feels more like a gimmick than anything else.
I could imagine being more impressed with this device if I hadn’t already tried all of these other amazing vapes but I just feel like once you’ve tried a Volcano Vaporizer or a Solo or really any other high quality vaporizer then this one will just leave you disappointed.
But yeah. Overall I’m going to give the PUFFiT a 4/10.
Alternative Portable Vaporizers…
If you’re looking for an alternative vaporizer then here’s what I’d recommend:
Magic Flight Launch Box: If you were attracted to the PUFFiT because you’re on a budget and like the low price tag than you might want to look into the Magic Launch Flight Box. I did a review of it a while back but basically this thing about the same price but boy does it pack a punch. Sure it does look a bit weird and maybe more suspicious but hell if this is the kind of hit I can expect of the PUFFiT then I don’t really care about stealth.
Pax 2: If however the main reason that you’re looking into the PUFFiT is for the stealth and portability factor then I’d definitely recommend taking a look at the Pax 2. It’s a really wicked vaporizer that basically just looks like an MP3 player. You can even chuck some headphones or something around it if you want and then nobody would even give it a second look. And once again this vape actually does pack a really good and satisfying vape.
